Board of Health
The Board of Health is comprised of volunteers appointed by the Mayor and Council. The purpose of the Board of Health is to establish policy and oversee the professional health staff in the provision of the best and most efficient tasks of protecting the health and well being of the citizens of Tenafly. These volunteer residents include medical professionals as well as a mix of individuals from a broad spectrum of the community.
The Board of Health oversees a part-time Registrar of Vital Statistics and a part-time Public Health Nurse at the Health Office located in the Municipal Center. Office hours for the Registrar and the Registered Environmental Health Inspector are Tuesday and Thursdays 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Regular meetings of the Board of Health are held at 7:30 p.m. in the Richard D. Wilson Committee Room at the Municipal Center. Meetings for 2020 are scheduled for January 16, March 19, June 18, September 17, and November 12.

Personal Health Services.
The Tenafly Health Department offers health consultation to adult residents. The services are performed by professional staff of the Health Awareness Regional Program (HARP) of Hackensack University Medical Center.
The Adult Health Center provides individual and private health assessment and consultation of the physiological, social, and psychological well being of the participants. Health consultation focuses on blood pressure assessment and promotion of a healthy "Lifestyle". Health education is given in relation to the needs of the client. Individuals are referred to their physicians for specific health conditions. No appointment is necessary.

Child Health Conference. Health assessment and immunizations for uninsured children under 6 years of age by appointment at Englewood Hospital or New Milford Health Department. No charge.

Cancer Screenings for Men & Women. Bergen County Department of Health Services offers free breast and cervical cancer screenings for women aged 40 and over who meet eligibility guidelines. Colorectal cancer screenings for women aged 50 and over who meet eligibility guidelines. Prostate and colorectal cancer screenings for men aged 50 and over who meet eligibility guidelines. Men with risk factors such as ethnicity or family history may qualify to be screened at a younger age. To find out if you qualify, please call 201-634-2660.

Vital Statistics. Marriage licenses, birth, death and marriage certificates. The Borough of Tenafly contracts with the Borough of Little Ferry for registrar services. Marriage license applications are taken by appointment only. Office hours for the Registrar in Tenafly are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00a.m. - 3:30 p.m. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, contact Judy Pesce at 201-568-6100, Ext. 5511. Animal Control. All dogs and cats must be licensed and vaccinated against rabies. Complete a Registration Form for dogs or cats online via this link or by mail with this application. Licenses are issued through the Office of the Borough Clerk. Report dog or animal bites to the Police Department immediately.
