About the Commission
The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) was established in 1988 to identify and protect Tenafly’s architectural and historic legacy and to promote public interest in the Borough’s treasured landmarks.
Historic Plaque
The Tenafly Historic Preservation Commission has designed a unique plaque to highlight and acknowledge the very special historic properties that make up the character of the Borough of Tenafly. If you believe your home or property to be historic, you may apply for one of the oval plaques which ideally should be mounted to the left or right of the main entrance door. The HPC is available to make a placement recommendation upon request. Cast in bronze and coated with a red oxide finish, the plaques are 10 inches wide by 7 inches tall. For more information, see the order form, Centennial Plaque Application Form (PDF).
Bergen County Historic Sites
The HPC built on the earlier work of the Bergen County Historic Sites Survey which, in 1983, had identified historic sites within the Borough. The Tenafly Planning Board incorporated the County listing of historic sites into the Borough’s Master Plan.
