American Cancer Society

You can be part of a historic research effort by enrolling in this year's American Cancer Society prevention study. Anyone between the ages of 30 and 65 who have never been diagnosed with cancer and eligible.

Animal Control

All dogs and cats must be licensed and vaccinated against rabies. Registration can be completed online through this link here.  Licenses are issued through the Office of the Borough Clerk.  Report dog or animal bites to the Police Department immediately. Amendments to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, N.J.S.A. 4:22-17 et seq., were recently signed into law. The new legal requirements set forth in the Act apply to any individual who owns or has custody or control of a dog, service animal or an animal that is a pet. A guide outlining the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, the statute pertaining to animal cruelty (NJSA 4:22-17), and penalties for violation of the law (NJSA 4:22-26) are listed in the files above.

Cancer Screenings for Men & Women

Bergen County Department of Health Services offers free breast and cervical cancer screenings for women aged 40 and over who meet eligibility guidelines.  Colorectal cancer screenings for women aged 50 and over who meet eligibility guidelines.  Prostate and colorectal cancer screenings for men aged 50 and over who meet eligibility guidelines.  Men with risk factors such as ethnicity or family history may qualify to be screened at a younger age.  To find out if you qualify, please call 201-634-2660.

Health assessment and immunizations for uninsured children under 6 years of age by appointment at Englewood Hospital or New Milford Health Department. No charge.

Personal Health Services

The Tenafly Health Department offers health consultation to adult residents.  The services are performed by professional staff of the Health Awareness Regional Program (HARP) of Hackensack University Medical Center.  The Adult Health Center provides individual and private health assessment and consultation of the physiological, social, and psychological well being of the participants.  Health consultation focuses on blood pressure assessment and promotion of a healthy lifestyle.  Health education is given in relation to the needs of the client.  Individuals are referred to their physicians for specific health conditions.  No appointment is necessary.
